Director of Aspring Capital delivered a speech at the 7th Annual "Private Equity and M&A" Conference

December 13, 2024, Moscow – Alexey Kupriyanov, Director of Aspring Capital, delivered a presentation during the VII Annual Private Equity and M&A Conference titled "Case Study: Navigating Complex M&A Deals — The Beeline MBO Experience."

His presentation centered on the key challenges and the final structure of the transaction. Alexey showcased Veon's exit from the Russian market as a standout example of a successful sale of a Western business for a significant sum in the context of current market challenges.

The deal's complexity stemmed from cross-border payment constraints, the need for regulatory approvals, and issues related to Veon's bond payments — all of which necessitated innovative solutions. The chosen approach involved VimpelCom repurchasing or exchanging Veon bonds within the framework of the National Settlement Depository (NSD). This strategy effectively minimized cross-border payments and enabled the resumption of payments to bondholders.
